Remember FCPS teacher only work about 6 months out the year. The rest is holidays, snow days and Summers off.

What I can't figure out is why some people seem to hate teachers so much and why these same people don't apply for these "cupcake" jobs if they think the jobs are so wonderful and so high-paying.

What I'm saying is that at my old corporate rate of $50 an hour, I'd be making at least $81K as a teacher, but I only make $58K as a teacher instead. I made over $100K in my corporate job. And BTW - $50/hr is what I charge for tutoring.

I'm not the one bitching about your salary. The FCPS loses teachers because they payer lower than adjacent counties. The FCPS was once regarded one of the greatest school districts - and sadly, they're starting to fall behind.

With this year's budget, the FCPS is seeking additional funding. For what? The FCPS could easily get rid of internal waste (non-productive teachers) which might amount to 1/5th of the staff. Take the money from those cuts and give the productive ones a 10% raise. They could also take a smaller amount of funding from the taxpayers for this upcoming fiscal year. Everyone would be happy except for 1/5th of the staff that lost their jobs. But hey, they were not productive enough to deserve what they made, so it's their loss.

It is certainly not something to be left up to volunteers.
With all the money they blow on offsite meetings and parties they can well afford to clear the lots and sidewalks. It is bad management and bad priorities.
